About Movin' On Up

The Express Employment Professionals Movin' On Up job blog focuses on our evolving workplace and how workers can make the most of it. Most people spend the majority of their lives at their jobs. For that reason, it makes sense to enjoy work and to do what you love. At Movin’ On Up, we want to discuss how we can make our work lives more financially, mentally and emotionally rewarding.

About The Writers

Tiffany – Growing up, my parents told me I could be anything. I took that to mean I could be everything, all at once. I started my first business selling jewelry at age seven and started campaigning to be the first woman president at age eight. My curiosity and passion for pursuing new opportunities hasn’t changed. At one point in time, I was going to grad school full-time, working full-time at a Fortune 500 company, waiting tables and running a jewelry business, all while commuting an hour three times a day!

Currently, I’m working hard at my day job at Express writing about jobs, staffing, HR, career advancement and management. In my spare time, I am finishing up my master’s degree in journalism, serving as a chairperson for a professional organization, researching my master’s thesis, writing an eBook, learning about professional photography, trying to find a good deal on a used piano, working in my yard, helping my friends launch a start-up T-shirt company, volunteering with youth and writing a children’s book.

Summer – Since I took my first job at 15, I’ve worked as a telemarketer, waitress, nanny, intern, public information officer, writer and editor. I’ve worked for restaurants, a golf course, a family of four, the mall, the government, Fortune 500 companies, a PR agency, a newspaper and Express Employment Professionals. Why all the jobs? Maybe job A.D.D. is the answer. But, I don’t regret working at so many places – I learned something new at each of them and got to know people I wouldn’t have met otherwise.

Since settling in at Express in 2004, I’ve had the opportunity to broaden my understanding of workforce and HR trends. Through this, my appreciation for the importance of having a passion for your work has grown. On this blog, I’d like to discuss how we can enjoy our lives and our work more each day.

Besides my job at Express, I enjoy learning foreign languages, reading and writing fiction, traveling, diagnosing myself and my friends with illnesses using WebMD and blogging.

Sean – In 1989, I joined the workforce as a sports information assistant in the University of Oklahoma’s athletic department. Over the years, I’ve held a variety of positions and have learned a lot about the job market through my experience. In 2004, I started at Express Employment Professionals. Before I joined on at Express, I’d been in the education and non-profit arenas for 15 years. I held positions ranging from media and public relations to relationship marketing and strategic planning.

When not at work, I enjoy books, sewing and playing acoustic guitar. I cherish spending time with my reporter wife and my two daughters, along with doing activities inspired by the Food Network, Bravo and the Discovery Channel.

Jennifer – I have always loved communicating, whether it was through writing, acting or performing a comedy skit in front of my friends. When I was 14, I decided that I was going to start communicating with the world by writing my autobiography. However, after realizing that my life story wouldn’t be a bestseller, I turned my focus to other forms of communication. Acting or practicing law sounded really exciting. Either way, I was going to tell a story. So, I set off to pursue my dreams.

During my college years, I found myself drawn to a number of fields. First, there was business communications, then acting classes and finally legal studies. Eventually, I came back to my first passion – communication. My acting classes taught me how to entertain, and my law classes taught me how to educate. So, if I can use just a little of what I learned from those classes in my field of work, then I'll feel as though I've succeeded. And even though I took a winding path to get where I am today, all the detours along the way were worth it.

When I am not working, I enjoy reading and writing poetry and screenplays.

Shannon – After attempting to major in forensic science, I changed my major to public relations and interpersonal communication, something I should have studied in the first place. I enjoy researching, learning new things and writing; my curiosity usually leads me to Google just about everything. I am actually anxious to go back to school to learn more about business and earn my MBA. But for now, I get to put my passions and talents into my daily routine here at Express.

Outside of the office, I like to stay very busy. I fill my spare time volunteering for a Labrador Retriever rescue, fostering Labs, mentoring at a local elementary school and updating my home. I also love to watch movies, play board games and hang out with family and friends.
